Lucia Allais
Director
Lucia Allais is an architectural historian who writes about the technical and political history of design in the long twentieth century, with particular attention to global institutions and concepts of temporal change. She is Associate Professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, where she directs the Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture. Her 2018 book Designs of Destruction: The Making of Monuments in the Twentieth Century uncovered new archives about the many ways monuments became tools of international governance in the mid-twentieth century. Allais also writes about the history of theory, and about design media in history and in contemporary culture. She is an editor of Grey Room and a member of the Aggregate Architectural History Collaborative.
Jacob R. Moore
Associate Director
Jacob R. Moore is a critic, curator, and editor based in New York. Prior to joining the Buell Center, he worked as an editor at Princeton Architectural Press. Moore received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Columbia College at Columbia University, and a Masters of Science in Critical, Curatorial, and Conceptual Practices in Architecture from Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. His work has been exhibited internationally and published in various magazines and journals including Artforum, Future Anterior, and the Avery Review, where he is also a contributing editor.
Jordan Steingard
Program Manager
Jordan Steingard is an editor and researcher based in New York. Prior to joining the Buell Center, Jordan worked at Metropolis Books, the architecture and design imprint at Distributed Art Publishers (DAP). She received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Barnard College, and a Masters in Liberal Studies, with a focus in American Studies, from the CUNY Graduate Center.
